Talk: Assessing claims of avoided emissions in the digital sector
Several organizations have published reports regarding avoided emissions in the digital sector. These reports advocate for the positive impact of digital technologies in the context of the Anthropocene. While we need to understand where and how digital systems can help pushing towards ecological transition very little critical analysis has been done on claims of avoided emissions. This talk will present a systematic analysis of the main claims published by GSMA (10:1 ratio) and GeSI (20% GHG cut) in order to evaluate the confidence that can be given to these statements.
